Epic iPhone OS games

A list of games I officially recommend:

  • Vay: A port of the Sega CD classic. A must have for JRPG fans who don't mind going retro
  • iFighter: A vertical scroller shmup game, reminiscent of classic shmups
  • Pac-Man: Wakka wakka wakka wakka...
  • SkyFighter: Like iFighter, but I found it to be less of a Bullet Hell. A free demo of both is available
  • Baseball Superstars 2009: Fun with RPG-like elements and lots of unlockables, but doesn't make much use of iPhone touch and tilt capabilities, reverting to rendering buttons on the screen
  • Star Trigon: Quick fun, though the controls can get tricky, and the game does get hard fast
  • GeoDefense: A tower defense game. Really really hard and fast paced but lots of fun and very challenging.
  • Fieldrunners: Another tower defense game, plays differently from GeoDefense, has a more slower pace.
  • Topple: The idea is to stack different shaped blocks without them being toppled. Just buy it.

Best RPG for the iPhone and iPod touch

Vay is the best RPG for the iPhone and iPod touch.
To be more accurate, Vay is the best JRPG for the iPhone and iPod touch, at the moment!
So if you've got an iPhone or an iPod touch and you are looking for a JRPG then Vay is a must buy!

Vay is a near-perfectly executed, the controls are fluid and seamless. It hardly feels as a port.

Hopefully, Vay is a sign of things to come, and the iPhone gets more JRPGs.

What is Vay?
Vay is a Japanese Role Play Game originally developed by SoMaGa for the Sega CD.

The year of the PS3 is nigh!

It is official. 2009 is going to be the year of the PS3!
SCEA hardware marketing boss John Koller is expecting this year’s E3 to be one of the most significant for the company in the last 11 years.

“It’s going to be a big E3,” Koller told VG247, talking at GDC.

“We’ve just started planning what the announcements will be, but I’ve been here for 11 years: this will be one of the larger E3s in terms of software and just discussions about where we’re going from a brand perspective and where each of the platforms is headed.”

It’s widely rumoured that PlayStation’s biggest brands are going to be megatonning Sony’s E3 press conference in June, and Koller did nothing to dampen expectation.

“I think some of the big announcements are going to come of the software side. We talked a bit at Destination PlayStation, and came out with about half of the PSP line-up, maybe even less, and the balance we’re going to be talking about in the months leading up to e3 and at E3,” he said.

“The same goes for PS3. There’s a really strong line-up of games that’s going to help drive a lot of business.”

Bring. It. On. E3 takes place in LA in the first week of June.

It begins!

But Macs are overpriced!!!

Really?
Enter the Dell Adamo!
More expensive, less powerful, uglier (subjective) and only slightly thinner.

The base price for the most basic Dell Adamo with 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB 800MHz DDR3 RAM, Intel GMA integrated graphics and 128GB SSD is $1999.
It gets worse, no matter how much $$$ you shill, you wont be getting more than 1.4GHz, no faster than 800MHz DDR3 RAM and the still crappy Intel GMA.
Did I mention that it is a full pound heavier than the MacBook Air?

For $200 less (that is $1799) you can get a MacBook Air that features 1.86GHz C2D (with 6MB L2 cache), nVidia GeForce 9400M, 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM and 120GB HDD.

So here is a challenge, I want a laptop significantly thinner than 0.8", with at least 13" screen, excellent mobile graphics, no heavier than 3 pounds and under $1899.

Congratualations it is a Mac.

Let's talk V(crap)ista

Fortune magazine makes a great point. The new MSFT ads avoids mentioning Windows Vista by name, and avoids comparing it to Mac OS X. I wonder why?

Apple's "V Word" ad.

Hint: Windows Vista is a steaming pile of BS!

Get a clue MSFT, some of us are willing to pay more just to avoid using your crappy OS.

Bill Gates, what keeps you up at night?

Another MSFT ad targetd at AAPL and indirectly advertises HPQ hardware.

Why is MSFT freaking out? They still control 85-90% if the desktop OS market and Windows can be run on a Mac natively. If Parallels and VMWare can find a business-case in selling virtualization software for the Mac, then I'm sure MSFT can find an added value in Mac sales. After all, Mac users will be paying the full retail price for Windows, if they want to run Windows that is. Hereby lies the crux of the problem, choice. MSFT doesn't want to make Windows a choice, it wants to make it mandatory!
"We are only on 90% of the hardware! The humanity! We must be on 100% of the hardware"
MSFT shouldn't be worrying about Mac sales, they should be more concerned about Android and GNU/Linux which can be run on any hardware -not just x86- and can be run on hardware that doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Windows Vista. If anything, that is what will cut into their desktop and enterprise monopoly. They should also be worried about their apparent inability to cater to the gaming, media player and smartphone market with their XBox, Zune and Windows Mobile.

Sony: "Silly Rabbit, DSi is for Kids!"

Sony what a bunch of losers! Here something their idiotic boss (of SCEA) said:
If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the "kids" market that they've always engaged, there isn't much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we're launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we're also planning a steady stream of downloadable games -- both new titles and PSone classics -- to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store.
O RLY?
You know, maybe I am a kid. OR Maybe the DSi just happens to have the better games.
Why would I be interested in the PSP with its short battery life and lack of original titles?
The PSP is a piece of shit! Fix your hardware before attacking the better competition!
If I wanted to play a Playstation, I'll play the proper Playstation, not a POS battery drainer with ports of PS1 and PS2 games and missing buttons. How am I supposed to play PS1 or PS2 ports with missing buttons?
PSP = zero innovation. There is nothing unique or intriguing about it.
Unlike the PSP, the DS (and DSi) don't try to be anything but what they are. The PSP has sort of an identity crisis. How am I supposed to play Twisted Metal with no R2 and L2? Same with Grand Theft Auto, the game is crippled beoynd belief on the PSP. While the DS title is innovative and inituitive and makes epic use of the stylus and touch screen.
Yes the PSP has MOAR POWER but lacks original titles, all good titles are (crippled) ports of SNES, PS1 and PS2 games that I've already played, and drains battery like there is no tomorrow.
